Data Science has seen an explosion of growth in recent years, and Machine Learning tools are expanding into a variety of new platforms. One recent inclusion has been the R and Python in-database capabilities in SQL Server 2017 via Microsoft’s Machine Learning Services. In this talk, we will discuss the primary SQL system stored procedure that permits the execution of external ML code, sp_execute_external_script. We will also use this stored procedure to address a very simple Machine Learning problem by demonstrating the use of Microsoft’s parallelized packages RevoscaleR and Revoscalepy, and then compare performance across the two implementations.
